IBC PLATFORM to promote the UN Convention on the rights of the blind.
As part of UNIC Rio’s educational activities the Centre signed a joint development agreement with ABRAPA (Brazilian Association for People with Learning Disabilities), IBC (Benjamin Constant Institute for blind persons), and NCE-LABASE (research labs at UFRJ - Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro) to implement the IBC PLATFORM – NEUROLAB (Cognitive Neuro‑psychology and Neuroscience Laboratory) project for Education and Human Rights.
In practical terms, we organized a computer platform aimed at volunteer researchers willing to work with blind children at the above mentioned institutions, stimulating their intellectual development while at the same time teaching them about the work of the United Nations in Brazil and worldwide.
The IBC PLATFORM – NEUROLAB – will contribute to greater awareness of international level research being done, by allowing direct access to new educational software based on Cognition Science and Neurosciences with a vision of inclusive development.
People with handicaps desire social inclusion, an objective supported by national and international legislation. Within this context, this platform’s main task will be to promote cognitive-linguistic development through easy access to appropriate IT based resources.
The project will have national reach and its benefits may be extended to other Portuguese speaking countries.
